From the Lewis and Clark journals, October 11,1804 Wm. Clark wrote the following: "after being treated by every civility by those people...we returned to our boat at about 10 O'clk PM. informing them before we Departed that we would Speek to them tomorrow... Those people gave us to eat bread made of Corn & Beans, also Corn & Beans boild...also Squashes and all Tranquillity." At this point in their journey they were close to the South Dakota-North Dakota border with fall upon them. They had just documented how the earth lodges were constructed. How amazing to me that they would take every day in stride.
